Performance Measures
As part of its management efforts, the City regularly collects and reports a range of data useful in the management and operation of each of its departments. For example, the Public Works Department measures performance by tallying the number of service complaints and the amount of time it takes to resolve those complaints. The information is shared department-wide as an incentive for supervisors and performance measures are implemented in each division's annual budget. The City has found that performance measures provide the basis for short-term management and long-term evaluation of how well the City's programs and services are working. They help articulate our purpose (why we exist as a public agency) and to identify what is important to our "customers," the recipients of our services. The establishment of performance measures in all City departments was a requirement for the Government Finance Officers Association Certificate of Excellence received by the City.
