Dr. Willie Adams, Jr.

Willie Adams, Jr. was born in Apalachicola, Fla. and reared in Quincy, Fla. He attended the public schools of Gadsden County. He is married to the former Constance Lee, and they are the parents of three daughters and one son, and have seven grandchildren. 

After graduating from Carter Parramore High School, Adams attended Florida A&M University, where he served as President of the Student Government Association. He graduated from FAMU and joined the army as a 2nd Lieutenant, serving in that capacity for two years. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U. S. Army Reserve.  

He attended Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tenn., where he received his Medical Degree. He completed his internship in Hurley Hospital in Flint, Mich. and his residency at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.  

He began Obstetrics & Gynecology private practice in Albany in 1973. Dr. Adam’s medical associations include the Diplomat American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Governor’s Council of Maternal & Infant Care, American Fertility Society, American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, American Medical Association, American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Georgia State Medical Society.  

Service to the community has always been one of his priorities. Some of Dr. Adam’s outstanding memberships are Founder and Director of the First National Bank of South Georgia, Albany Dougherty Inner City Authority, Dougherty County Board of Education, Dougherty Aviation Commission, Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Advisory Board of Salvation Army, Board of Directors of Mag Mutual Insurance Company, and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Dr. Willie Adams has received numerous awards and recognition for leadership. Of special note are honors given by Albany State University, Department of the Army and the Kiwanis Club. 

Dr. Adams was elected Mayor to begin a four year term on February 10, 2004.
In January 2005, Mayor Adams was appointed by Gov. Sonny Perdue to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, a state agency that serves as a liaison between state and local governments.
