Youth Boxing Program at Turner Gym 

Time: 8 weeks beginning Feb. 2, 2015 

  • Mondays from 6:00 - 7:00 pm 
  • Wednesdays from 6:00 - 7:00 pm

For: Boys and girls ages 8 - 15 years old

What:  After school assistance consisting of Math, English, Reading, Social Studies, and one-on-one needs for ages 7-15.

Teen Outreach Program (TOP)

Time: Meets on Thursdays from 5:00 - 6:00 pm

Place: Bill Miller Community Center at 312 Vick St. 

For: Teens ages 13-17

Wyman's Teen Outreach Program enables teens to lead successful lives and build strong communities.  Some of the topics covered in the year-long program will include: values clarification, relationships, communication/assertiveness, influence, goal-setting, decision-making, human development and sexuality, and community service learning.  


Fundamental Skills of Basketball 

For: Grades 6-8 

Where: Turner Gym at 2301 George St. 

When: Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6:00 - 8:00 pm

Ladies in the Making Club

Designed for girls ages 7 and up, this program meets once per month and is intended to help mold girls into respectable, productive young ladies.  Information/reservations: Please contact Gloria Bridges at 430-5242.

Grandparent's Club

The Grandparent's Club meets monthly as a place for grandparents to network and share ideas with each other.  Topics of discussion include education, health, and wellness.  Meetings take place at Thornton Community Center (210 Thornton Drive).  Contact Gloria Bridges at 430-5242 for further information. 

February meeting: Saturday, February 14 at 5:30 pm at Thornton Community Center.  Senior citizens and grandparents are invited to join us for a "Red and White Throwback" with entertainment, food, and fun!

Open Gym for People with Disabilities

What: Carver Gym (410 Mercer Ave.) is offering open gym two mornings a week exclusively for people with physical or intellectual disabilities.  This includes access to free weights, the basketball court, and the game room.  The days and hours are: Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00 am - noon.  FREE!
