Street Numbering Ordinance

The City of Albany and Dougherty County governments are concerned for the safety of the community and request your cooperation regarding street numbering on buildings. According to city and county ordinances, every house, mobile home, apartment, business or other building having a street number assigned to it must display the street number in a readily visible manner.

Mobile home parks and apartment complexes must also have each individual pad, lot number or apartment number displayed in a readily visible manner. Street numbers on buildings or signs must be a minimum of four (4) inches in height. Those affixed to mailboxes must be a minimum of two (2) inches in height. All such signs shall be of a color contrasting to the background so as to be clearly visible. Street numbers and signs to which they are affixed must be maintained in good condition. Numbers must be readily visible from the street by persons traveling along the street in each direction. This is extremely important so the police, fire and emergency medical services can find addresses quickly when responding to calls. Failure to comply with this ordinance is a violation punishable by the court.
