"Blight Tax" Ordinance
On October 28, 2008 the Mayor and Board of Commissioners adopted an ordinance establishing the "Community Redevelopment Tax Incentive Program" (referred to as the "blight tax" by code enforcement). This is an incentive program designed to encourage owners to redevelop blighted properties. The ordinance provides for an increased tax rate if the Municipal Court finds a property to be blighted as outlined in the ordinance. Once the property is no longer in a blighted condition, the tax rate is reduced for a three year period. The Albany Code Enforcement is working with the City Attorney's Office to fully implement this ordinance.
