Training, Education, and Development

The purpose of this function is to provide and communicate key elements relative to Federal, State and local laws and guidelines as well as organizational policies and procedures to City of Albany/Water, Gas & Light managers, department directors, supervisors and employees through training, coaching and counseling.

This function entails many hours of training, research, development and preparation by the human resources staff as well as classroom hours spent in implementation. Important aspects of the training to the organization include leadership, teamwork and skill building that are provided to the employees. Workshops and retreats in areas such as Customer Service, Financial Management, Pre-Retirement and Successful Hiring are just a few of the courses that are offered throughout the year.

Organizational Development in the areas of organizational structure, reporting relationships, job classifications, formal and informal roles, power and leadership relationships and the progressing dynamics of the organization are a few of the elements that are relayed to employees. Ongoing research and investigation to methods and processes are completed to provide new opportunities, concepts and overall effectiveness to the organization.

Ongoing and advanced education is available to all employees that have successfully completed their probationary period through the Tuition Reimbursement Program.
