Matt Breedon
Matthew Breedon began his service to Dougherty County and the State of Georgia in 2005 as an Assistant District Attorney. During his tenure Matt has prosecuted cases in the Juvenile, State, and Superior Courts of Dougherty County. In 2008 Matt was appointed as Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia allowing further government service through the prosecution of criminal cases in the federal courts. In 2010 Matt was named the Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney for the Dougherty Judicial Circuit. In his duties Matt is responsible for supervising other attorneys, working with the Albany-Dougherty SWAT team, and prosecuting major felony cases including armed robberies, aggravated assaults, and capital cases. Matt also specializes in the prosecution street gang related crimes.
Matt received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia in 2002. While there, Matt engaged in ethnobotanical research in numerous countries such as Botswana, Zimbabwe, Ecuador and the Bahamas. Matt was a member of the Environmental Law Society and the President of the Mu Omicron Chapter of the Beta BetaBeta Biology Honor Society. In 2000 Matt was elected as the national Vice President of Beta BetaBeta honor society. After completing his undergraduate program at Columbus State University, Matt attended Mercer University in Macon, Georgiawhere he received his Juris Doctor degree in 2005. While at Mercer, Matt volunteered with Georgia Legal Services and was a member of the Mercer Association of Prosecutors, International Law Society and Environmental Law Society.
Matt is currently member of the Georgia Bar and Dougherty County Bar Association. Matt has further served our community by volunteering with the Special Olympics, Georgia High School Mock Trial Association, G.R.E.A.T Youth gang Reduction Program, Wills for Heroes, Taking Back Authority, and Relay for Life. Matt was recognized for his service by being named as one of the Albany Herald’s “40 under Forty” in 2010. Matt has resides in Lee County, Georgia with his wife, Genevieve Breedon, and their three children. Matt and his family are members of First United Methodist Church and the Albany Area YMCA where Matt coaches youth soccer.
