Absentee Voting

In order to vote absentee BY MAIL, one may apply in writing to:

Mailout ballots are available to voters without having to have a reason. An application is necessary, and voters may ask for an application to be mailed to them, or may just send Name, Address as registered, DOB, and the Address to mail the ballot. The application must contain the SIGNATURE of the voter. The application may also be faxed to 229-438-3975. The last day to mail out a ballot is the Friday before the election.

A voter who will be out of town on Election Day, or is age 75 or older, is an election official or will be on duty at a job involving public safety, may come in the office, Room 220 of the Government Center at 222 Pine Ave., and vote their ballot in person.

During the week before the election, a voter can vote early for no reason. This is done at the Riverfront Resource Center, 125 Pine Avenue. Parking is available in the Herald Parking Lot next door.

THOSE REGISTERED VOTERS WHO ARE ELIGIBLE TO VOTE ABSENTEE CONSIST OF VOTERS WHO ARE UNABLE TO VOTE IN PERSON FOR ONE OF THE FOLLOWING REASONS:

•A voter who is required to be absent from his/her precinct during the time of the primary or election in which the voter desires to vote.
•Cannot vote in person due to a physical disability, or due to being required to give constant care to someone who is physically disabled.
•Is an election official who will perform official acts or duties in connection with the election.
•Is required to remain on duty in place of employment for the protection of the health, life or safety of the public during the entire time the polls are open, and the place of employment is within the voter’s precinct.
•Is age 75 or older.
•A Citizen of the United States permanently residing outside the US, was last domiciled in Georgia, and is not domiciled or voting in any other state. (Only allowed to vote for Federal Offices.)
•A member of the Armed Forces or Merchant Marines of the United States, or a spouse or dependent of the member, residing outside the County.
