The Voter Registration and Elections Department provides locations at DFCS, ASU and Darton Libraries, each high school, Albany Technical College, and the main office in the Governmental Building for the citizens of Albany and Dougherty County to Register to Vote. An official voter registration list for the City and County is maintained, with constant updates, i.e., addition of new voters, changes of name and/or address, purging voters convicted of a crime, transfers from the city/county, deceased persons and incapacitated adults. For a minimal charge, the list will be provided to persons using the list for campaign purposes. Other services include furnishing copies of registration cards to citizens for proof of age and residency.
The Department also handles the equipping and staffing of 28 polling places, the training of approximately 325 poll workers who are required at every election. The Board of Elections is constantly recruiting new poll workers! Vote Tabulation, certification and reporting of election results to the Secretary of State’s Office and the local media is also conducted by this Department. Also, all Absentee voting for elections, both in person and by mail, is handled here.
All financial campaign disclosure reports for candidates for County office, as well as yearly financial statements for all County officers, are filed with this department.
